The Effectivenss of the Carbonis Acid/Bicarbonate Buffer
Human blood contains many different buffer systems. The most prevalent buffer in blood is the carbonic acid/bicarbonate buffer system. We tested the effectiveness of this carbonic acid/bicarbonate buffer at three temperatures: 35 degrees Celsius, 37 degrees Celsius, and 39 degrees Celsius. We wanted to know if normal human body temperature, 37 degrees Celsius, is the best temperature for the buffer. Our results supported the original theory; the buffer is most effective at a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius.
